Ear candles have a purely physical function. A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the Ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. This indicates a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses.
It is soothing & helpful for earache, headache, ear noise, stress and nervousness. The physical effect described after the treatment is soothing, pressure & pain relieving sensations in the ear & head area. Treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell, even when the nose was blocked before treatment.

The Treatment
- One ear is treated at a time.
- The client lies on their side and relaxes in a tranquil environment.
- The candle is lit at the top and the other end is gently placed into the external ear canal. The therapist holds the candle in place throughout the burning time – about 8-12 minutes.
- The client usually hears a crackling or fizzing noise as the ear candle burns, this sounds is the vapourising of the honey, wax & herbs in the candle.
- Warmth may be felt around the ear.
- Both ears must always be treated.
- Treatment can be followed by a soothing facial massage, this helps drain the sinuses and encourage lymphatic drainage and blood flow.
